As I sank into the swamp that promises a pointless death,
My mind was so resigned to giving up my final breath
I expected to be taunted with a multitude of straws,
Or lectured on my negligence of labyrinthine laws,
But a rope was looped around me, and a sturdy pair of hands
Pulled me from my desperate plight up onto solid land.
My saviour did not stop when he had hauled me from my hole;
He took me to his palace, there renewed my very soul;
Clothed me in the purest white, cleansed my heart of sin,
Adopted me into his family, where I could begin
To walk the holy, narrow path that leads to heaven’s door,
Where I’ll join my king and friend in joy forevermore.
